The Good Medicine Project is grateful to four members of the San Francisco Bay Area cancer and research community for sharing their expertise and knowledge with us.

Elizabeth Castillo

Elizabeth Castillo has helped thousands of low-income and underrepresented cancer patients. She coordinated the Cancer Navigator Program at San Francisco General Hospital from 2014 – 2022, and directed programs and services at Bay Area Cancer Connections in 2023.

Candyce Kroenke, ScD, MPH

Candyce Kroenke, ScD, MPH, is a senior researcher at Kaiser Permanente Northern California Division of Research and professor at the Kaiser Permanente School of Medicine. Her article on social support in the newsletter of the Kaiser Pathways Project, “Fun and Friends Help Ease the Pain of Breast Cancer,” sparked the Good Medicine Project!

Dianne Shumay, PhD

Dianne Shumay, PhD is a clinical health psychologist who has worked in cancer her entire career. She is head of psychology at Swing Therapeutics. From 2006 to 2022 she helped patients at UC San Francisco Helen Diller Comprehensive Cancer Center, most recently as director of the Psycho-Oncology program.

David Spiegel, MD

David Spiegel, MD is the Willson Professor, Associate Chair of Psychiatry & Behavioral Sciences, Director of the Center on Stress and Health and Medical Director of the Center for Integrative Medicine at Stanford University School of Medicine. He is the Chief Scientific Officer of Reveri.
